“His public activities have sparked a conversation on ethics among the general public, gaining the interest of executives and political leaders as well as citizens,” says Daniel McMahon, Rector of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. “Ethics is a social issue today thanks to the efforts of René Villemure. […] For his remarkable contribution to social progress in placing ethics centre-stage in the public’s conscience on three continents, René Villemure is granted the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.”

“I am honoured to receive this tribute from UQTR, because although it is essential to think about ethics today, it will be even more so in the future, whether in health care, education, public and social affairs, diplomacy or the economy. Too often, we reduce ethics to prohibitions, sanctions and restrictions. On the contrary, I’ve always presented ethics as an art of coexistence intended to inspire a real and lasting ethical culture within companies and society,” says René Villemure.
